Repeat this rnd until work measures 13(14.5,16.5) cm/5(5-3/4,6-1/2) inches from beginning, or until desired length before start of heel. To shape heel The heel flap is worked over sts on Needle 1. Sts on Needles 2 and 3 remain as they are until heel has been completed. Work heel flap over 16(20,24) sts on Needle 1 as follows: Row 1 (RS): *Sl1, k1. Repeat from * to end of needle. Row 2 (WS): Sl1, p to end of needle. Next rows: Repeat Rows 1 and 2 seven (9,11) times more. To turn heel Work short rows as follows: Row 1 (RS): K10(12,14) sts, ssk, k1, turn. Size S: Row 2 (WS): Sl1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 3 (RS): Sl1, k6, ssk, k1, turn. Row 4 (WS): Sl1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 5 (RS): Sl1, k8, ssk, turn. Row 6 (WS): Sl1, p8, p2tog, turn. 10 sts now on needle. Size M: Work Rows 2 to 4 as indicated for Size S (above), then proceed as follows: Row 5 (RS): Sl1, k8, ssk, k1, turn. Row 6 (WS): Sl1, p9, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 7 (RS): Sl1, k10, ssk, turn. Row 8 (WS): Sl1, p10, p2tog, turn. 12 sts now on needle. Size L: Work Rows 2 to 4 as indicated for Size S (above), then Rows 5 and 6 as indicated for Size M (above). Proceed as follows: Row 7 (RS): Sl1, k10, ssk, k1, turn. Row 8 (WS): Sl1, p11, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 9 (RS): Sl1, k12, ssk, turn. Row 10 (WS): Sl1, p12, p2tog, turn. 14 sts now on needle. To establish gussets In this step, you will pick up sts at each side of the heel flap in order to return to working the foot of the sock in the round. Then you will gradually decrease at each side of the foot, forming gussets, which allow a smooth fit over the arch of the foot. Slip sts from Needle 3 onto Needle 2. Rnd 1 (RS): Needle 1: K10(12,14) sts for heel. Pick up and k11(13,15) sts along selvage of heel flap. Move the last of these sts to the beginning of Needle 2; this stitch will be worked as a purl stitch from now on. 20(24,28) sts now on Needle 1; 17(21,25) sts on Needle 2. Needle 2: P1; work remaining sts on Needle 2 in k3, p1 ribbing as established. Needle 3: Pick up and k10(12,14) sts along rem selvage of heel flap and k first 5(6,7) sts of heel. 47(57,67) sts now on needles: 15(18,21) sts on Needle 1, 17(21,25) sts on Needle 2 and 15(18,21) sts on Needle 3.
